Description
The building at 12 High Street, Wotton-under-Edge, is a dwelling, now used as offices and incorporating a retail shop. It dates to the early 19th century. The front facade is of painted brick, while the return to Haw Street is of squared stone, with painted stone rusticated quoins on the right end. The roof is covered in Welsh slate.
The building is five storeys high, plus a basement, and has three windows on the main front. A shallow sash window is located at the eaves. The windows on the middle three floors are sashes set within projecting bays, with glazing bars to the top three floors only. A single fixed plate glass window occupies the original opening on the ground floor, alongside a pilastered 19th-century shop front and modern glazed doors leading up four concrete steps.
The Haw Street facade is two windows wide, with sashes including glazing bars to the top three floors. The first-floor window is blocked and flush, and all the windows are set under segmental stone arches with projecting keystones. A new shop front is located under a wide segmental arch on the right end. The rear wall is constructed of small coursed stones and retains original sash windows. The building represents a very prominent corner location.
