Description
Llanthony Priory Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now used as a storehouse, built around 1870 to 1880. It incorporates some remains of the south end of a former gatehouse from the 14th-century monastic buildings of the Augustinian Priory of Llanthony Secunda. The building is constructed of red brick with patterned blue headers and limestone ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof and brick stacks, and is designed in the Tudor Gothic style.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with a three-bay east elevation. The centre section is gabled and projects forward, featuring a blind trefoiled light at the apex. On the first floor, there are two trefoiled lancets set in a square-headed architrave. Flanking the projecting porch are offset buttresses, with a labelmould over a hollow-chamfered ogee-headed doorway that has four similar ogee arches above. To the left, there is a lancet in a square-headed architrave, and above it, a Caernarvon-arched architrave in a square-headed architrave. This decorative pattern is repeated in a two-light transomed window on the first floor and a three-light ground-floor window to the right, both featuring plate-glass sashes. The west elevation has similar detailing, marked by an offset stack and gable. The interior has not been inspected. This building reflects the site's use as a farm from the time of the Dissolution until the late 19th century.
