Description
The War Memorial at the Church of St Paul and St Stephen is a memorial built in 1919 and designed by John Coates Carter, who lived from 1859 to 1927. It is made of Bisley stone and features a timber cross along with a bronze sculpture.
The memorial is shaped like an octagonal pulpit that rests on a plinth. The pulpit is open at the back and extends out at the front, supported by a strongly-moulded corbel. Its sides are adorned with carved texts and the names of those who fell in the war, which have weathered over time. The inscription reads: "IN PEACE 1914-1919." Above the pulpit, there is a timber cross that holds a bronze figure of the crucified Christ.
