Description

No. 6 Pitt Street is a house that is now part of the King's School and is assigned to the School Bursar. It dates from the late 18th century, with some minor alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of brick, featuring brighter red brick details, and has a tiled roof with a brick stack. It is a small double-depth block with a rear wing to the left, forming an L-shape.

The exterior consists of two storeys and an attic. The symmetrical front has a slightly cross-gabled wall with three bays, topped by a shaped, stone-coped gable. The corners of the façade are flanked by narrow, slightly recessed walls. The ground floor features a central entrance doorway with a rectangular fanlight and a fielded six-panel door, which is recessed within an opening that has timber-lined jambs and head. On either side of the doorway are mid-19th century sashes. The first floor has a central blind window with recessed brick infill, flanked by mid-19th century sashes, all of which have central vertical glazing bars. The door and window openings have flat-arched rubbed brick heads, with projecting stone sills beneath the windows. In the gable, there is a mid-19th century two-light casement with upper side-hung lights in the original opening, which also has a flat-arched head. At the rear, there is a sash window with a Gothick ogee-arched head.

The interior has mostly been refitted in the 19th and 20th centuries, featuring several 20th-century panelled doors. In the room on the first floor at the rear, there is a mid-19th century slate chimney-piece with original painted decoration depicting vines bearing grapes.
