Description

The Browne memorial is a chest tomb located about 8 metres south of Machen Chapel in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin. It commemorates John Browne, who died in 1719. The tomb is made of sandstone and features a flat top with moulded capping and a plinth. The short ends of the tomb display a rosette in an oval surround with a carved edge on the east side, and a drapery festoon in a rectangular surround with egg and dart moulding on the west side. The inscription on the north side is indecipherable, while the south side has an inscription in a rectangular panel decorated with fluted edging.
