Description
Eastbach Court is a large house with its main range dating from the mid-18th century, accompanied by an early to mid-17th century range on the left. The main range features ashlar stone with a rusticated ground floor and a concrete tile roof at the front, while the rear is constructed of coursed and dressed rubble stone with a slate roof. It has two stone end stacks that project from a shallow bay across the depth of the house. The building has a double range with an "M" shaped roof, a parapet wall, and a cornice at the front. It stands two storeys high with a cellar and includes five windows with glazing bar sashes, where the central three windows slightly project forward. The ground floor windows are adorned with two rusticated voussoirs and a dropped keystone, with a flat band indicating the transition from rustication to ashlar. The central stone doorcase features a pediment supported by consoles, a dropped triple keystone, and a splayed architrave at the base. Access to the door, which has half glazing and interlaced tracery, is via three stone steps. The rear facade has plain window surrounds, with the central bay showcasing a large round-headed window with interlaced tracery and a Gibbs surround door below. The 17th-century range is built of brick and rubble stone, topped with a concrete tile and slate roof, featuring simple arched windows. At the rear, there is a hipped dormer with a stone slate roof above, a gabled porch with a ball finial, and a stone architrave. Eastbach Court was formerly the home of the Machen family, whose memorial chapel is located in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin.
