Description
The stocks located 27 meters west of the War Memorial in the Recreation Ground are of unknown date. They are made of oak and are set on new oak posts within a concrete base, topped with a tiled roof. The stocks consist of upper and lower sections, each made up of two edge-jointed boards that have holes for two pairs of legs. The boards are surrounded on the outer edge by a wrought iron strap that is hinged at one end and clasps over an eye at the other. The structure measures approximately 1.7 meters in length. Near one end, there is a square post bolted to the upper boards, with an iron strake nailed to the front and back, and a small eye on either side, which is said to be a whipping post. The stocks were moved from closer to the village center around 1970, which is when the concrete base and sheltering structure were added.
