Description
This is a barn dating from the 16th or early 17th century, located on Ross Road. The barn is timber-framed with later brick infilling and a corrugated iron roof. It is a 7-bay building, featuring a central threshing floor which is half open to the roof and half lofted. The front, facing the road, has framing arranged in three panels high. Cranked tension braces are visible at each end. The doors are set slightly lower than the eaves, which rise towards the rear of the building. The gables are clad in weatherboard.
Inside, open cruck trusses span the entire barn, with the exception of the area to the left of the threshing floor. Here, two beams span between the main posts, tenoned through them and pegged externally. This truss is partly infilled up to loft level, and the section below was used more recently for cow tying, with parts of the original timber trough surviving. The loft and this associated truss may be the result of a later alteration, as the framing to the back wall in this area is different from elsewhere.
