Description
The Elliott Monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St. John the Baptist, positioned in the angle between the chancel and the organ chamber. It dates from 1806 and is constructed from ashlar stone, featuring a square plan. The monument has a weathered, pyramidal top resting on a flat lid with a moulded edge. The main body has square recessed corners and a horizontally-fluted frieze above a roll moulding. There is an outline of a rectangular panel with a cambered top created by dressing, and a roll moulding at the top of the plinth. This monument commemorates Sarah, the wife of Samuel Elliott, and their two children who died in infancy.
