Description

Huntley Manor is a house built in 1862 by S. S. Teulon, featuring smooth render on brick, with one section of squared stone that has ashlar dressings and stone copings to the gables. The roof is slate, and the design reflects a French chateau style. The building is two stories with attics and has an irregular 'L' plan. The garden facade includes a moulded plinth, a plain string course, and moulded eaves, topped with a mansard roof that has steep pyramid roofs over the bays, ending in ornate wrought-iron finials.

The windows are sash, either two or four-pane, with segmental heads, moulded surrounds, and projecting keystones. On the left side, there is a canted bay with wrought-iron window boxes on the first floor and a dormer in the roof. To the right, a large chimney breast is followed by a square bay with a wedge-shaped roof, a slight set-back, and two windows, one of which is now a French door. Above this, the wall extends to form tall dormers with gable copings and ball finials. Further to the right, there is another canted bay, a short section of wall, and another square pepperpot roof with a dormer, culminating in a gable with ball finials at the base and apex.

One window features a Moorish arch with round wood tracery at the bottom, and the entrance has a projecting hood on the right side, with square-set buttresses at the ground floor. Inside, the ceilings of the main rooms on the ground floor are boarded, with moulded ribs and bosses creating panel effects. The original moulded doorcases and panelled doors are present, along with tiled floors in the halls. The staircase features flat fretwork balusters and square newels topped with ball finials, and the main stair window has painted and obscured glass from the late 19th century. There are three original stone fireplaces on the ground floor. The house was reduced in size and reroofed in 1964.
