Description

The barn at Northend is an early 18th-century timber-framed building with a rubble stone plinth and gables, and a corrugated-iron roof. It has three bays, including a central threshing floor, and a wide double door that reaches the eaves. The framing incorporates a four-panel high design, with boards fitted between studs at the top on the right side, and either open or brick nogging on the left. Some interwoven ventilation panels survive on the yard side, and the stone gables are contemporary with the timber framing. An angle brace, rising from the sill-beam and across the barn to the main post, is present on at least one side, by the threshing floor. The interior has not been inspected. This barn has group value from its contribution to the rural historic landscape.
