Description
The monument to Richard Gill is located in the churchyard approximately 3 metres south of the southeast corner of the south aisle of St Mary’s Church. This chest tomb dates from the late 17th century and is made of sandstone. It features a thick, flat top that is inscribed and has a cyma moulded edge. The sides have sunk panels adorned with egg and dart moulding and central rosettes on both the east and west sides. At the time of the survey in September 1983, the base was sunken, and the end panels were separating from the north and south panels. The south panel bears an inscription for Richard Gill, dated 1696, and the name Gill also appears on the ledger slab.
