Description
No 27 on Broad Street is a house and shop built in the early 18th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a tiled roof. The building is five windows wide and two rooms deep, standing two storeys high with attics.
On the street elevation, the left side has a plinth and a three-light 20th-century metal window set in an earlier opening with a flat head, topped by a plain string course. To the right, there is a door with a heavy timber frame that is accessed by two steps. The door has four fielded panels below a glazed top and is sheltered by a flat projecting hood supported by shaped brackets.
Further to the right is an early 20th-century shop front with a door in the center, flanked by timber pilasters at each end and consoles supporting a moulded projecting head. Above this, there are four-pane sash windows with a brick-on-edge flat head and a coved plaster cornice.
The building also features three gabled dormers with two-light casement windows, slate cheeks, and boarded gables. Plain brick gable chimneys are located on the left behind the ridge and on the right in front of the ridge.
