Description
Lower Viney Farm is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century. It features a rendered ashlar exterior built on a rubble base and has a Welsh slate roof. The building has a T-shaped plan, with a back wing added in the 19th century to the earlier front block. It has gable stacks, with the right end stack reputed to be 'false', a third stack off centre on the left that conceals a spiral stone stair, and a fourth stack on the back wall to the right. All stacks are made of coursed sandstone.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are cross mullion and transom style with leading, rectangular panes set under stepped voussoir lintels and with stone cills. There is a six-panel door located under a segmental hood. During alterations, a floorboard was removed and inscribed on the back with "LY 1809" (Young). It is noted that the building was originally stone slated until 1907.
