Description

The monument to Thomas Buck is located in the churchyard about 5 metres south of the tower of the Church of St Mary. This chest tomb dates from 1677 and is made of sandstone. It features a large flat inscribed slab with an inscription arranged in two columns. The slab is very thick and has a chamfered edge, along with plain panels and a chamfered base. It is the earliest legible inscription for Thomas Buck of Ailberton and serves as a fine example of a memorial with an inscribed ledger slab.
