Description
The Gables, Lamb House, and Tower Cottage are three dwellings that were formerly one inn known as The Lamb and Flag. The buildings date from the 17th century, but the facade is mostly from the 19th century. They have a smooth rendered exterior with a plain tile roof, although some sections have Welsh slate on the back slopes. The structure has a complex form featuring one deep gabled wing on the left, two gables on the right, and a broad central section.
The buildings are two storeys high with a cellar, and Tower Cottage includes a third storey in its gable. On the left side, there is a two-storey canted bay with sash windows that do not have bars. The central section has three sash windows with bars, segmental heads, and a six-panel door set in a broad frame, topped with a ridged hood supported by consoles. Additionally, there is a four-light square bay window from the early 20th century.
On the right, there is a two-light casement window above a fine mid-19th century shop front that features decorative scrolled ironwork above a multi-pane window, along with a small sash window on the return to the projecting gable. Tower Cottage has a single-windowed facade with sash windows that have bars, and the corner of the building is canted and corbelled. The two gables are adorned with decorative 19th-century barge-boards.
