Boundary Walls, Piers And Gates To St John'S Church And School Room

The boundary walls, piers, and gates to St John's Church and School Room were built in the mid-19th century. They are made of squared and coursed limestone with saddle-back coping and stand approximately 1.5 meters high, running the full width of the churchyard and school room sites along Beachley Road. In front of the east end of St John's Church, there is a pair of square piers measuring 700 mm on each side and about 2 meters high, topped with pyramid stepped sandstone caps, along with a pair of simple iron gates that match the design. In front of the school room entrance, there is a similar pair of piers that are about 1.7 meters high, featuring a single gate of comparable design. These walls and gates play an important role in connecting the two related buildings they enclose.
