Description
The boundary wall, gate pier, and gates to the south of St John's Churchyard were built in 1868 as part of a church restoration scheme by Richard Norman Shaw. The wall is approximately 70 meters long and constructed of coursed dressed stone with a ramped stone coping. There are higher sections at intervals, which are flanked by railings that were replaced in 1994. At the angled eastern end, there is a tall gabled gateway featuring paired wrought-iron gates that have bars, dog bars, and trefoil finials. The western end has a chamfered terminal that forms the gate pier. This structure is included for its group value.
