Description

Church Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the mid-19th century, possibly designed by Woodyer, the architect for the adjacent church. It is constructed of large, square rock-faced sandstone, with a roof of plain or bevel-cornered tiles. The cottage is one and a half stories high, with a two-windowed front, and a further two windows to the right. All windows are two-light chamfered mullion casements, with small gables above them and moulded drips over the ground-floor openings. A porch with a coped gable and saddle stone sits between the first and second bays, featuring side lights and a plank and strap door. A two-light casement window is located in the gable to the left. A large external stack is positioned to the right, and a ridge stack is situated to the left of the porch. The cottage retains its original appearance and is a notable feature alongside St Luke’s Church.
