Description
The Cider House at the Old Tump House Inn is a 19th-century cider house that includes cider-making machinery. It is constructed of coursed sandstone and has an asbestos tile roof with gabled ends. The building is a small rectangular single-cell structure with a loft and a later outshut at the south end.
The exterior features two storeys, with the west front having a cart entrance on the left that includes a timber lintel and plank double doors. Above this entrance is a loft doorway with a plank door. The north end has a small loft window, while the south end contains a small ground floor window, now located within the later outshut. The rear wall is blind.
Inside, there are unchamfered floor beams and a two-bay roof supported by a nailed collar truss. The interior also houses a complete set of cider-making machinery, which includes a horse-gin cider-crusher, a cider-press, and an apple-bin. This building is a rare example of a small cider house that retains its original cider-making equipment.
