Description
The monument to Joseph Tamplin is located in the churchyard about 15 meters northeast of the northeast corner of the chancel of the Church of St Mary. This chest tomb dates from the late 18th century and is made of sandstone. It features a tent-like top with a moulded edge at the inset corners, heavy bolstered ends, and an elliptical panel with low relief floral spandrels on the north side, while the south side has a plain panel. The base was noted to be sunk at the time of the survey in September 1983. The earliest legible inscription, commemorating Joseph Tamplin, is dated 1778 and is found on the south panel. This memorial is situated approximately 5 meters south of another Tamplin memorial.
