Description
Hoggins Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It features a rendered exterior with some rubble and a roof made of concrete tiles or asbestos cement slate. The building has a T-plan layout, with an off-centre left cross passage, a large external stack on the left gable, a sandstone stack on the right gable, and a ridge stack on the back wing.
The farmhouse is 2½ storeys high and has three windows across the front. There are three half-gables with 2-light plain chamfer stone mullion casements beneath stopped drips, above which are 3-light casements of the same style. On the ground floor, there are wood mullioned casements with a transom in two bays and a 3-light glazing bar sash to the right. Between the first and second bays, there is a gabled porch with sidelights in stopped drips and a three-panel moulded door.
At the back, the farmhouse includes a 2-light and a 3-light stone casement, both with drips, though they are badly worn. There is also a stone panel inscribed 'ITE 1767' and a lean-to roof infill. The left gable has a glazing bar sash at ground level and features a sandstone mounting block by the stack.
Inside, the farmhouse contains plain chamfered beams, several good panelled 19th-century doors, and a spiral stair in a cylindrical well near the centre stack. There is a basement under the kitchen with a low segmental stone vault. The roof has not been inspected.
