Description
This is a 17th-century chest tomb located about 12 meters north of the north wall of the nave of the Church of St Mary. It is made of sandstone and features a thick flat top slab with a moulded edge. The tomb has a decorated pulvinated frieze and high relief carved ends that include rosettes and drapes. There are sunk inscription panels, with the base having sunk at the time of survey in September 1983. The south-facing panel is badly worn, while the north panel has some well-preserved 17th-century incised lettering, though neither the name nor the date is now decipherable. This tomb is an important historical artifact, despite its wear, due to the nature of the forest sandstone.
