Description
No 5 Church Street is a former house, now used as offices, dating from the third quarter of the 19th century. The building features plain rendered brick at the front, painted brick on the side, and a tiled roof. It has an 'L' plan and stands three storeys tall with two windows wide. The structure includes a plain plinth with a blocked opening to the cellar and projecting quoins at the right corner.
Access is via a doorway on the right, which is reached by three stone steps. The door has six panels, a slightly projecting edge, pronounced fielding, and the top two panels have semi-circular heads, all framed by a plain, reeded surround. To the left of the door are two single-pane sash windows with stone sills and plain, slightly projecting surrounds, while the window next to the door is narrower. Above the door, there are two similar windows on each floor. The eaves are supported by shaped brackets, and there is a moulding below them. The building has gable chimneys.
Inside, the front room on the left at ground floor level features a decorative plaster cornice. The staircase has turned balusters for the handrail, with half balusters carved on the sides of the square newel and a decorative top. The building is included in the register primarily for its group value.
