Description
The monument to Charles Cauls is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 6 metres southeast of the southeast corner of the south aisle of the Church of St Mary. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features an upright chest with a flat top that has a moulded edge, bolstered ends, and plain panels on the north and south sides. At the time of the survey in September 1983, the base was noted to be sunk. The inscription commemorates Charles Cauls, who passed away in 1769. The design of this monument is similar to that of the monument to Thomas Stephens.
