Description

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a parish church built in 1817. It is constructed from roughly squared stone that is more or less coursed, with ashlar dressings, and features a slate roof. The church has a wide, three-bay nave, a small chancel, and a west tower, along with north and south porches.

On the south side, there is a plain ashlar plinth, and the porch is located at the center of the nave. The original planked door is set in a pointed arch and accessed by stone steps with simple iron railings. A plain string course runs across the gable at the springing of the arch to the door. Flanking the nave wall are two three-light windows with pointed heads, Y tracery, and hood moulds. The church has angle buttresses at the corners of the nave, porch, and tower, with plain copings on all gables.

The tower is divided into three stages by plain string courses. It features a small lancet window at the top of the first stage, a small circular window in the second stage, and a two-light window with louvres and Y tracery at the top, all with raised surrounds. The tower is topped with a crenellated parapet. The entrance on the west face of the tower has a pointed head and a string course at the springing level, which breaks forward with consoles below the door.

Inside, the nave is a plastered hall with a flat ceiling. There is a western gallery with a panelled front supported by timber Doric columns, accessed by an external stone stair. The chancel features a plain stone arch and a pointed plaster barrel vault. On either side of the east window, there are painted plaques displaying the Ten Commandments. This church is noted as the first Anglican church built within the Forest of Dean.
