Description

This is a terrace of five houses located on Culver Street, Newent. The buildings largely date to the 17th century, with later alterations and No. 62 likely having an early 19th-century front. The construction is mainly brick-nogged timber-framing on a random-rubble plinth, with some rendered panels. No. 62 has Flemish bond brickwork. The roofs are tiled.

The terrace is six bays long and two storeys high. The street facade incorporates a cellar opening with a top-hung shutter and pavement plates. There are various doors and windows, including boarded doors (some with quarter landings and stone steps), 2-light casements, a 3-light mullion and transom window within a square oriel with a tiled lean-to roof, and a 2-light horizontal-sliding sash window to No. 62. Some windows have been replaced with two-light metal casements. The brick front to No. 62 features a cambered brick arch and an iron handrail. A brace runs from the wallplate to the right-hand end on the first floor. The first floor includes 2-light casements and a single-light window above a door.

The roofline varies slightly between the houses. A large gable chimney projects from the right end, and a large chimney is on the ridge between Nos. 68 and 70. There is a change in roof level between Nos. 66 and 68, with a small chimney at the ridge. A chimney is also located on the gable of No. 64. The roof to No. 62 has a slightly lower pitch. A break in the brickwork is visible on the left side of No. 62. The buildings have group value.
