Description
The Lake is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of brick-nogged timber-framing, sitting on a brick plinth, with some replacement brickwork on the ground floor rear which has been painted. The roof is tiled. The original house comprised two bays, one room deep, and has been extended to the rear. The gable faces Cook's Lane, featuring an external brick chimney breast on the ground floor, slightly offset to the right of the centre of the original house, with brick offsets at the first floor level. There are two-light casements on each side of the gable, with weatherboarding on a bressumer. A lower beam, also weatherboarded, is present on the extension to the right. A farm building partially obscures the rear and is not of particular interest. The first floor has two-light casements on each side of the chimney, and a single light in the end of the rear extension. Straight braces to the corner posts tie the tie beam, which has a cambered upper surface and weatherboarding. Two collars to the truss, each with weatherboarding, are present, along with V struts over. The rear slope was later flattened to extend over the rear extension. The chimney is set back on the right-hand side. On the front, there is a two-light casement on the right, a beam end on a rail above, and to the left, a gabled, rendered single-storey porch. The ground floor front to the left of the porch is not visible. A single-light casement is located to the left of the porch on the first floor, with straight braces to the corner posts and one side centre post to the wallplate. The interior has not been inspected. The farmhouse forms a group with the adjacent barn.
