Description
The Old Barn is a converted barn dating from the 16th century or earlier. It features a cruck frame with walls made of weatherboarded timber framing and a roof of corrugated iron. The left side of the southwest wall has a later lean-to addition. There is a wide doorway on the right, which has a sill resting on a stone and brick plinth. The lintel is framed between the principal posts, situated below the wall-plate.
Inside, the barn has four bays. The framed studwork and wattle holes indicate that the southern gable truss has always been closed, featuring a tie-beam and blades that terminate at collar level. The three internal trusses have high collars, yokes, and blades that reach the ridge but are not joined at the apex. The north gable truss, which is not fully visible, has blades reaching the apex and wattle holes in the collar. The side walls are framed in large square panels, with intermediate studs likely being a later addition. Each end of the walls has a curved tension brace.
