Description

Priory Mill is a former mill and adjoining house that has been converted into a large private residence. The house on the left was refronted in the early to mid 18th century, while the former mill on the right was converted into a house in the early 20th century. The entire structure likely dates back to the late 17th century, with a mill having existed on this site since the medieval period associated with the nearby Priory of St. John.

The building features coursed rubble stone faced in ashlar on the front of the house, topped with a stone slate roof and three stone stacks. It is a single range, two-storey structure with one gabled attic dormer on the left side. The ashlar-faced section has three 12-pane sash windows set in plain stone architraves, with two similar windows below. The central doorcase features a shallow open pedimented hood supported by scrolled brackets, leading to a recessed six-panel door, of which the top two panels are glazed and the rest are fielded.

The former mill has three 12-pane sashes in plain reveals, a 20th-century bay window to the left on the ground floor, and a central door with four recessed panels topped by a gabled hood on brackets. To the right, there is a 12-pane sash window with a brick relieving arch below, which is cut into by the store sill of the sash, and a mill race runs underneath the structure.
