Description

Foxholes Farm House is a house and former mill dating from the early to mid-18th century. The main house is rendered and features a double Roman tile roof at the front and a Cotswold stone slate roof at the rear, with brick end stacks. The former mill building is constructed of rubble stone and also has a Cotswold stone slate roof. The structure consists of two staggered parallel ranges and is two storeys tall.

The house has four windows, which are 12-pane sashes, with a double sash window to the right. The ground floor windows are adorned with moulded stone architraves. There are two steps leading up to the central doorcase, which features a triglyph and guttae frieze, with pilasters framing a six-panel door that has the top four panels glazed and the lower two fielded.

At the rear, there is a small additional range that is part of a much older house on the site, which retains one 2-light wood mullion window in the attic gable. The former mill range has a large brick arch facing south into the angle formed by the staggered ranges. On the west side, there are three windows, including 4 and 3-light casements under cambered heads, along with a boarded door and two casement windows below, which have wood lintels. The rear of this range is now used for general agricultural and storage purposes, as the mill ceased operation in the early 20th century.

Inside the house, there is an oak open well stair in the center with a wreathed handrail. The room to the right on the ground floor is panelled and includes a shell niche in the right-hand alcove, flanked by fluted pilasters around the fireplace.
