Description
The Belvedere is a former summerhouse dating from the mid-19th century, currently in a derelict condition as of November 1984. It is constructed from random coursed rubble stone with quoins and features a slate roof. The building is single storey, with a basement that is built into the hillside. The main facade facing south is inaccessible, but from the inside, it reveals three tall arched openings with moulded architraves, although the central opening has largely disappeared. There is also a wide pointed arch below at the basement level. Each side of the building has one similar opening at the south end. Inside, there is a fireplace in the northwest corner, which includes a carved mantel frieze and a stone dolphin device above the mantel shelf, similar to those found on the rainwater heads at Rose Hill School. The east side features a plain straight-headed entrance, although the door is missing.
