Description
Hillesley Baptist Church is a Baptist church built in 1823. It is constructed of rubble with brick surrounds to the windows, which were formerly rendered. The church features a pyramidal slate roof and is two storeys high, with three bays. It has 20-pane glazing bar sash windows with segmental heads, and the central window on the first floor has a semi-circular head. The entrance consists of central double six-panel doors beneath an elaborate fan light, all within a plain stone surround. There is a lean-to single storey extension on the left side.
Inside, the church has a gallery supported by slender cast-iron columns, with later 19th-century pews. There are 11 carved memorial tablets, mostly in a classical aedicular style, including those for the Dodge and Verr families.
