Description
Hillesley Farmhouse and the dairy and cheese wing to the left is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with freestone dressings, partly rendered, and features a Cotswold stone slate roof with coped raised verges and ashlar stacks on the rear wall. The building has two storeys and attics beneath a steep stone gable. On the ground floor, there are three windows and a door, including single, three- and four-light casement windows with recessed chamfered king and ordinary mullions, surrounded by drip moulds and relieving arches, some of which are partly cut away. To the right, there is a 19th-century bay window with a 1-3-1 light configuration. The off-centre panelled door leads into the interior, which features stop-chamfered beams and a large inglenook fireplace in the ground floor room to the right, characterized by a depressed four-centred head and ovolo/ogee mouldings. A similar fireplace is found on the first floor, and there is a newel stair at the end of the former passage. The two-storey dairy and cheese room wing to the left includes louvre windows.
