Description

The Old Parsonage is a Grade II* listed rectory, now a house, with origins dating back to 1703, which is an addition to an older structure. The building is constructed of stone and features a moulded coved cornice along with a hipped, stone-tiled roof. It stands two storeys high, with an attic and cellar.

The south front has five bays, including two gabled dormers, and is adorned with sash windows set in reveals with moulded architraves. Elongated stone stacks with moulded caps are located at each end. The east and west fronts each have three bays and two dormers. The entrance, which was originally on the south front, has been relocated to the east front. It features a six-panelled door topped by a three-pane rectangular fanlight, accessed by a flight of stone steps with a plain handrail.

To the north is a service wing, which is the remnant of the earlier house. This section is one storey with an attic, built of rubble stone and topped with a hipped, stone-tiled roof. The north front has two and four-light hipped dormers with modern leaded lights. The windows have cambered brick arches, indicating 19th-century alterations.

Inside, the property boasts a cantilevered staircase with an elm handrail and turned balusters, along with several rooms featuring bolection moulded panelling, panelled window shutters, and bolection moulded stone fireplaces. Most rooms also have dentil cornices.
