Description

This is a barn with an associated outbuilding, dated 1795. It is located to the south west of Kilkenny Farmhouse. The barn is constructed of random rubble limestone, with a stone slate roof. It is a five-bay structure, featuring a central projecting porch on its east side with a hipped roof extending down as a catslide above the doorway, which has a timber lintel. Flanking the porch are outshuts with lean-to roofs and small plank doors. The rear wall is built into a bank, including a central blocked barn doorway with its original timber lintel; a casement window has been inserted. Slit vents are also present on the rear wall, and slit vents and an unglazed loft window with a timber lintel are found on the south end’s gabled parapet. A lower attached outbuilding, possibly a former stable, is situated at the north end. The interior of the barn has not been inspected, but it likely features a collar and tie-beam truss roof.
