Description

14 Silver Street is an early 18th-century house located at the end of a terrace in Tetbury, with a large 19th-century extension to the rear. The front of the house is constructed from rubble stone with an offset plinth, while the 19th-century extension features brick surrounds to its windows. The roof is covered with Cotswold stone slates and has stone stacks at the ends, along with brick stacks to the rear.

The house originally consisted of a single front range, but now forms a U-shape due to the L-shaped 19th-century extension. The central courtyard created by the extension is glazed and features a lantern. The building is two storeys and has an attic. The front facade has three windows, each with 12 panes and concrete lintels. The ground floor has two windows with 16 panes each, and a central doorcase featuring Roman Doric pilasters, a broken cornice, and a pediment over a six-panel door with a fanlight. Two gabled dormers break through the eaves, and a small glazed light is visible in the roof to the right. A mudscraper is situated to the left of the door, and is included in the offset plinth. The south side of the house has sash windows and a half-glazed door in the corner.

The interior retains some original panelling and joinery. A notable feature is the unusual stairwell, which incorporates a top flight in an L-shape, joining as a center bar of a T to form a landing. A small polygonal lantern illuminates the front section of the stairwell, while a larger rectangular lantern covers the rear section.
