RENDCOMB - SP 01 SW 2/245 Shawswell Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Mid C17 with later extensions. Limestone rubble; concrete tile roof; C20 ashlar stacks. Early range: east-west at centre with later extensions to the north and south. Complex plan now basically forming a rectangle. Garden (east) front with asymmetrical gable to the early range at the centre. Two and 3- light casements mostly with C20 lintels to the early range and the extension to the right; stone-mullioned casements (one with double chamfers) to the extension to the left. Two C20 two-light roof dormers. C19 four-panel door with the upper two panels now glazed, within a gabled ashlar-built porch with imposts and keystone which' overlies the junction of the early range and the later extension to the south. Gable-end stacks. Interior not inspected but reputed to contain open fireplaces with bressumer beams; fireplace in kitchen with curved bressumer and small range; separate opening to bread oven with large dressed stone lintel to the right; beams with deep flat chamfers.
