Description

Rosemary Cottage is a row of three houses dating from the late 17th century, located in Edgeworth Village. The houses are constructed of coursed and random rubble limestone, with two ashlar chimneys featuring moulded caps and a plain tile roof. Each house originally had a single-room plan over two storeys, with an attic. A two-storey wing extends from the rear of No. 1; a hipped roof single-storey addition is attached to the gable end of No. 3. Later 20th-century porches have been added to each house, along with timber lintels over the doorways and 20th-century doors. The windows are scattered throughout the facades, with a window to the right of each doorway and another centrally above. Windows in Nos. 2 and 3 are 3-light, recessed chamfered mullioned with hood moulds, while No. 1 has 2-light windows of the same style, plus an additional single-light ground floor window with a chamfered surround. Each house has a roof light. An early 20th-century single-storey addition built of red tiles with a half-hipped roof is attached to No. 3, featuring a 2-light chamfered mullioned window to the east end and a single-light window with a chamfered surround and hood mould in the gable above. A further flat-roofed addition projects from the rear of No. 3. At the rear of No. 2, there is a 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned window with a hood mould. The rear wing of No. 1 has mainly 20th-century windows with stone lintels. Wide fireplaces with timber lintels are found in Nos. 1 and 2.
