Description
Nos. 42 and 43 Down Ampney are a pair of semi-detached cottages that have been converted into one house. They date from the mid-19th century and were altered in the late 20th century. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble stone and feature large alternating flush quoins. The roof is made of stone slate with coped end verges and brick end stacks.
The building has a single front range of two storeys, with small rear wings. On the first floor, there are four original paired small iron glazing bar casements with timber lintels, except for the second bay from the left, which has wood 6-pane casements. The ground floor has three windows, all similar iron casements that are slightly larger than those on the first floor, also with timber lintels. Between the windows, there are two porches that are gabled, featuring flush stone chamfered shallow triangular headed archways with small slit vents above and plank inner doors.
