Description
Nos 51 and 52 Down Ampney are a pair of semi-detached cottages built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from coursed rubble stone and feature a stone slate roof with stone end stacks. The cottages have a single front range with a parallel rear range to No 52 on the right and a range at right angles at the rear of No 51. They are single storey with an attic and have four small gables, each containing a 2-light stone mullion window with a square hoodmould and original iron lattice casements, which are also present on the ground floor. Gabled porches are located between the windows of each cottage, featuring flush stone chamfered openings and plank inner doors. Both returns have small iron glazing bar casements. The rear features brick and rendered stacks. Although modest, these cottages remain complete as originally built.
