Description

The Cotswold Book Shop is a late 17th-century building, dated 1697. It is constructed of coursed squared rubble with chamfered quoins and has a Cotswold stone roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic. A modern shopfront occupies the front. On the first floor is one two-light stone mullion and transom casement with a rusticated surround, and one 19th-century paired casement with a central mullion and keyed heads. The steeply pitched roof has a moulded stone verge and kneelers, along with three gabled dormers. A rear wing has a higher roof line. The south-facing return has a rusticated cross-mullion window, similar to the one on the first floor front, and part of another in the gable. A datestone above the first-floor window on the right-hand side is inscribed “16 97”.
