Description
Brook Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings and has a tiled roof with brick gable end stacks. The building is two storeys high, with a single-storey wing to the south. It features flush stone quoins and a first-floor string course.
On the east elevation, there is a doorway on the extreme left, which has a moulded stone doorcase and a pediment dated IB 1695, with a modern half-glazed door. Above this doorway is a single light window with a chamfered surround. To the right, there is a 2-light flush mullion window with a square section mullion on the ground floor, and a 3-light chamfered mullion window above it. Further to the right, there are single light windows with chamfered surrounds on each floor, followed by another 2-light flush mullion window and a 3-light chamfered mullion window above, creating a sequence of ABCB. The single-storey wing has one 2-light chamfered mullion window. The north gable end features one 2-light and one 3-light chamfered mullion window with dripmoulds. There is also a 20th-century wing to the west.
