Description
This is a house, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, located in the parish of Kniveton. It is now a post office. The house is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings. The roof is tiled, with a brick gable end stack and a stone-coped gable featuring kneelers. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with an additional section creating an angle and a mono-pitched roof. It is two storeys high. The west front has a double-fronted design and stone quoins. A central doorway is framed by a stone doorcase with a low-pitched bracketed pediment, and contains a six-panelled door with raised and fielded panels, topped by a rectangular window above. Flanking the door are glazing bar sashes set within raised stone surrounds with keystones. Two similar windows are located above. The south elevation features a large projecting chimney stack. It contains two windows consistent with those on the west front, and to the left of the stack is a blocked two-light chamfered mullion window. A similar mullion window is visible in the gable of the east facade.
