Description
No. 7 Gosditch Street is a house and shop that dates from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The front is finished in stucco, while the rear is constructed from coursed limestone rubble. The roof is covered in Welsh slate, with artificial slate on the rear slope. There is a rear axial stack and an additional stack visible over the roof. The building stands three storeys tall with an attic and features a four-window range.
The right side of the building was refronted in the early to mid-19th century and slightly projects forward. On the first floor, there are two 6/6-pane sash windows in moulded architraves on the left, and two 19th-century plate glass sashes in plain reveals on the right. The second floor has two-light leaded casements in similar moulded architraves on the left, and 3/6-pane sashes in plain reveals on the right. The ground floor features a six-panel door with a single-pane overlight set in a round-headed opening, which is framed by an enriched moulded stone doorcase with pilasters that have acanthus-leaf capitals, a frieze with paterae, and an open pediment. There is a 20th-century shop front on the right side of the ground floor.
The building has two flat-topped dormers with two-light timber casements. A band course runs over the ground and first floors on the left, and there is a boxed-out eaves cornice. The right side has a bracketed cornice and a coped parapet. Additionally, there is a large 19th-century iron hanging-sign bracket on the first floor to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
