Description
21, 23, and 25 West Market Place are three shops with flats above, built in the early 19th century. The front is made of limestone ashlar, while the sides are red brick and the rear is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble. The roof is a Welsh slate parapet with brick stacks at the ridge and left end on the front, and brick stacks at the left and right ends on the rear range. The building is designed to fit the curve of the street, with a change in angle towards the center left. It has three storeys and an attic, featuring a three-window range.
On the first floor, there are two 6/6-pane sash windows in plain reveals with stone cills on the center and right; the right window has 19th-century cast-iron brackets for a window box. The left side of the first floor has a triple sash window with a configuration of 2/2-6/6-2/2 panes and stone mullions. The second floor includes a triple sash window with a 1/2-3/6-1/2 pane arrangement on the left and three 3/6-pane sashes in the center and right. There are three dormers with lead tops, each featuring 2-light timber glazing-bar casements. The ground floor has three 20th-century plate-glass shopfronts. The upper floors are highlighted by broad pilaster strips, with two on the center left forming a raised panel that includes a window on the second floor. The building is finished with a frieze, a moulded stone eaves cornice, and a parapet with moulded coping. The interiors have not been inspected.
