Description

Barton Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating to the late 17th and 18th centuries, possibly built in two phases with a 20th-century extension. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, with a limestone slate roof and limestone ashlar gable end coping. The house has an 'L' shaped plan, with a wing projecting to the rear left and a stair turret projecting to the rear right of the original core. A porch is located centrally at the front. A 20th-century extension is attached to the right gable end of the main body.

The garden facade features a gable front to the left and a 20th-century gable front to the right. The original part of the house is two storeys and an attic, with dormers lit by two-light windows. It has a three-window front with three- and four-light, double-chamfered stone mullioned casements, many with horizontal glazing bars. Some of the stone mullioned casements are 19th-century replacements. The porch has a four-centred arch with carved spandrels, and an early studded plank door is within a similar arch on the side of the porch. The 20th-century extension has irregular fenestration, including a two-light roof dormer and replica stone mullioned windows, and a 20th-century door towards the right. Axial stacks are located to the right of the left gable and at the right gable end of the main 17th- to 18th-century body, both featuring moulded strings and skirtings. The gable end coping has roll-cross saddles. The interior was not inspected.
