Description
Shoecroft Barn is a former barn, now a detached house, dated 1769 with a conversion in the mid to late 20th century. It is constructed from random rubble limestone and features a stone slate roof. The building has five bays and includes a porch and outshuts on the south side, now transformed into a two-storey house. The central former porch on the south side has glazing where the door was originally located and a hipped porch roof. The upper part of the outshut roofs has been removed to create a balcony, accessible from inserted upper floor casements in the main barn wall. On the north side, there is a central barn doorway with the upper part glazed, set below the original timber lintel. Above this doorway is a datestone inscribed 'W.S. / 1769', indicating it was built for William Somerville, the vicar, as this was glebe land at that time. There are two flanking slit vents and an inserted upper floor casement with a timber lintel to the right. Additionally, two upper floor casements have been inserted at the east end. A lean-to workshop addition at the west end is not considered of special interest. The interior has not been inspected.
