Description

Court Cottage, together with The Ponderosa and Weaver's Cottage, forms a group of three cottages originally part of a row of five, dating from the early to mid-17th century, with a mid to late 18th-century addition, and some 20th-century alterations to Weaver’s Cottage. The central section of the row is single-storey with an attic, while the end houses are two-storey with attics. They are linked on the east side to Spinners and Lilac Cottage.

The west side of the cottages has varying fenestration. The Ponderosa has a single timber casement window with a timber lintel and a lower right section featuring two and three-light recessed casement windows with a cavetto moulding and hoodmoulds. A doorway with a timber lintel is on the left, with a trellis porch. Court Cottage has a full gable to the left with a two-light recessed chamfered attic casement and a three-light window below, both with hoodmoulds, and two ground-floor casements with timber lintels to the right. Weaver’s Cottage has 20th-century restored mullioned windows.

The east side features a three-light recessed chamfered casement window with a hoodmould on Weaver’s Cottage, and a two-light window above. Court Cottage has 20th-century casements, and the left part of The Ponderosa has a three-light recessed casement with a cavetto moulding, with timber casements to the right and two roof dormers. Various ridge chimneys, mainly 20th-century rebuilds, are present. The interiors were not inspected.
