Description
Kiln Cottage and Weaver's Cottage are two houses located on Debenham Low Road. They date from the late 16th century and consist of a two-cell range, with each house occupying half of the structure. To the right, Weaver's Cottage features a 17th-century cross-wing, while to the left, Kiln Cottage has an in-line addition from the 18th to 19th centuries. The buildings are timber framed, roughcast-rendered, and topped with a pantiled roof. They are two storeys high and have a scattered arrangement of windows, primarily consisting of two and three-light casements, each with a single horizontal glazing bar. The cross-wing includes a four-light window with a transom. There are two mid-20th century gabled porches with plank doors. Inside, Weaver's Cottage has been modernised, but retains widely spaced 16th-century studding on the upper floor. The lower room features a ceiling with chamfered joists and an open fireplace, along with evidence of a diamond-mullioned window in what was once an outside wall. The timbers in the cross-wing are concealed, and the interior of Kiln Cottage has not been examined.
